Published Works

Kevin M. Cowan’s published works are windows into worlds both familiar and strange — places where metaphysics and raw humanity collide, where humor and heartbreak share the same page.

Rooted in a fierce love of storytelling, Kevin’s fiction explores the thresholds between reality and imagination, sanity and surrender, hope and despair. His work is unapologetically alive — blending classic narrative craft with experimental risks, philosophical inquiry, and a touch of the surreal.

Kevin's writing career officially took flight at the Daily Nebraskan, where he began as a feature writer and reviewer. After publishing his debut novel, Coffee with Kuwait, Kevin returned to the Daily Nebraskan to launch Alpine Dolphins, a groundbreaking fiction column — the first of its kind at the paper.

Kevin’s fiction deepened during his time as Fiction Editor for The Great Red Shark (now The Reader), where he crafted stories like:

These stories, among others, would eventually be collected into Living in the Demon Box — a contemporary short story anthology weaving metaphysics, sexuality, entropy, and holistic understanding into one powerful whole.

Kevin’s major published works include:

Through all of his works, Kevin remains true to the same mission:
To explore the hidden dimensions of reality — and to tell stories that matter.
